Myra Richman How many lawyers does it take to enjoy an evening? All of them. Many interesting and unusual auction items filled the tables at the 13th Annual Barristers Ball, presented by the Maricopa County Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division. Each year the Young Lawyers Division chooses a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving one or more facets of our community as the beneficiary of proceeds generated by the Ball's Silent Auction. This year's choice was The Justice Learning Center and Museum, which exists in a restored cellblock in the Old County Courthouse. This innovative educational project will teach students and the public about the justice system through a captivating multi-media presentation as well as through displays and artifacts. After a tasty dinner, the silent auction tables closed and the live auction began. Auctioneer Olivia Fierro from Channel 3 News found a buyer for the Toyota Corolla LE that was donated by Avondale Toyota. Moda Fina Jewelers donated "Mystery Bags". At $50 per bag, guests had the opportunity to purchase a bag for a better than 1-in-3 chance to win: The Grand Prize---a one-carat diamond valued at $3,000 OR two jewelry boxes, $200 gift certificates (40) and sapphires (10). There is justice after all!
