Catholic Community Foundation's 21st Annual Crozier Gala
By Myra Richman
Arizona’s only Catholic black-tie event was held Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, with more than 600 people enjoying a great event. The Catholic Community Foundation continually seeks to raise funds to fulfill its mission. The Crozier Gala is the only special event of the year that helps accomplish this. Inspired by the generous example of the Foundation’s Patron Saint, Katharine Drexel, who gave of herself and her gifts without reservation, 2009 Chairwoman Cindy Todare of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Scottsdale, and the Gala Committee, put together an exciting program that surely inspired everyone in attendance to answer the call to serve. Honoree of the evening was Mrs. Lorenza DeMuro, of Paradise Valley, for her dedicated work as a Catholic philanthropist and recent funding of the new chapel for Seton Catholic High School. The money raised by the gala comprises the unrestricted funds that the foundation awards through its competitive grants program. The money directly supports local Catholic schools, communication programs, catechetical formation and services to the poor. The theme of this year's gala was “A Call to Serve." Chairwoman Cindy Todare spearheaded the event, in hopes that the evening inspired attendees to increase their service to the Church--to inspire philanthropy. The evening’s program focused on several individual vignettes performed by local high school students that highlight all the services that receive money from the foundation’s grants program. “Basically, we wanted to enlighten people as to the purpose of the gala, Todare said. And while the country suffers economic pain, the need for philanthropy will only grow, especially among programs like the foundation’s tuition assistance." About Catholic Community Foundation The Catholic Community Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization that supports the religious, educational and philanthropic objectives of the Diocese of Phoenix. Founded in 1983, the Foundation's mission is to carry on the work of Christ by fostering philanthropy. For more information, visit www.ccfphx.org.
