IFADD "Swing fore Life Golf Classic 2006"

By Myra Richman

IFADD dedicated Swing for Life 2006 to the memory of their beloved friend, Lydia Marie Hawkins, Chairman of Event Operations.

The International Foundation for Anticancer Drug Discovery was begun in 1997, as a tribute to the millions worldwide who prematurely die of cancer every year.

Sid Rosen, IFADD's founding chairman, and 100 people, resolved that the new organization would do all in its power to spare people the kind of ordeal that Sid and his wife, Babette, and millions of others had endured.  Babette died of cancer in 1996 after a valiant 4 1/2 year battle, involving two major surgeries, 46 rounds of chemo and countless radiation treatments.

The drug that might have prolonged her life was bottlenecked in the pipeline, and by the time Sid had garnered 25 US Senators' signatures to release that drug via "compassionate use" for Babette and other cancer patients, it was too late.  Many of those Senators ultimately joined IFADD as Honorary National Co-Chairmen, along with Vice President and Mrs. Dan Quayle, who serve as IFADD's International Chairs as well as the entire Arizona congressional delegation, former Governor Jane Dee Hull and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Winning accolades worldwide from the many patients and families they've helped, IFADD continues to make its mark in the War on Cancer with tenacious cancer patient advocacy and cutting-edge clinical trials advocacy.
