Florence Crittenton Teams Up for Kids! at 5th Annual Luncheon"
By Myra Richman
Florence Crittenton hosted the Fifth Annual Teaming Up for Kids! Luncheon on March 22, 2007 at the Phoenician Resort. The event featured movie and television icon Lynda Carter as the keynote speaker and former Good Morning Arizona anchor Jodi Applegate as the day’s emcee.
Governor Janet Napolitano presented Phoenix Councilwoman Peggy Bilsten with the 2007 HOPE Award for her dedication and lifelong commitment to making a difference in the lives of at-risk youth in the Phoenix community.
“Peggy serves as a strong role model for our girls and always generously gives her time and talents to those who are in need,” said Susan Karis, co-chair of the 2007 Teaming Up for Kids! Luncheon. “We are so proud to be able to honor her at this year’s luncheon.”
Past HOPE Award recipients have included professional golfer Jack Nicklaus, hockey pro Wayne Gretzky, business executive Barbara Barrett, and His Royal Highness The Duke of York, Prince Andrew.
Keynote speaker Lynda Carter made a touching, heartfelt presentation, followed by an engaging fireside chat with Jodi Applegate.
The exciting live and silent auctions had nearly 50 donated items, including an ultimate shopping getaway to Los Angeles and trips to Scotland, Mexico, Hawaii and Chicago. Gift baskets, jewelry, airline tickets, autographed sports memorabilia and courtside Suns tickets caused a stir at bidding time. Some serious money was raised for a very worthy cause, with the energy and help of community leaders Michelle Robson, Laurel D'Antoni and Ina Manaster.
The Fifth Annual Teaming Up for Kids! Luncheon, was sponsored by The Arizona Republic, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Clear Channel Radio and the Tim and Willy Kid’s FUN-dation. 602-955-0080. All proceeds from ticket sales and the auctions will directly benefit the youth and families served by Florence Crittenton.
