Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona Shines Bright at "All Star Affair"

Make-A-Wish held its annual major fundraiser May 20th at the Westin Kierland Resort. It was a night to remember for many reasons. The "All Star Affair" honored four Valley sports team owners, all of whom were in attendance. When it came to bidding at the live auction, the Diamondbacks and the Suns showed some friendly, kind-spirited competition. The two darling wish kids spoke, and young Ian requested that all the team owners appear on the stage. Then, with great humor, grace and intelligence, he said, "Okay, which one of you is going to take me to a game?" Robert Sarver, owner of the Phoenix Suns, stepped up to the plate (or the basket) and offered tickets to the 7th deciding game. It brought a big laugh to the audience--and gave Ian something important and exciting to look forward to. Many of the children that the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona is privileged to serve have been the recipients of generosity from the four sports teams. The two wish children were highlighted this year because of the winning spirit they exude everyday through their selfless and generous efforts on behalf of other children. Some of the best silent auction items ever seen at an event were displayed and grabbed up. After a great dinner and very busy live auction, Boogie Knights from Las Vegas took to the stage and within minutes, the dance floor--and beyond--was filled with fun-loving guests strutting their stuff. It was sad when one of the happiest and fun-filled events of the season ended. Many people wanted it to go on and on and on. They'll have to wait until next year. The special work done at Make-A-Wish is made possible by the generosity of foundations, corporations, and private individuals. They offer many different giving programs, and encourage joining in their crusade to make dreams come true. A donation of any size will bring smiles and comfort to an Arizona wish child.
