Have You Met Deb Eldridge?

Recently named an “Everyday Hero” by the Make-A-Wish foundation, Deb Eldridge is emphatic that “People CAN make a difference!” Only 17 persons throughout the US were chosen for this award, but it was Deb’s enthusiasm and dedication that earned her this recognition. This southwest native has seen the far-reaching effects that nonprofits have had on the Arizona community, and she has high praise for all the groups that she is involved with. She emphasizes that each one is a quality organization, and is a perfect fit for her goal of giving back to society.

A volunteer with the Make-A-Wish foundation since 1986, Deb reveals her “heart and soul” is committed to this organization. She participates as a wish granter and mentor . After losing her sister unexpectedly many years ago, Deb realized that “a person needs to make time for what is really important”.

Deb also expresses admiration for the Scottsdale Rehabilitation and Training Services (STARS). For 34 years this unique organization has provided job training and counseling to disabled and handicapped adults. Education and work skills are also core concepts.

Another focus of Deb’s is the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce. “They are a great supporter of education; one of their many goals is to develop the children of today to become the leaders of tomorrow”. Recently Deb was one of the first recipients of the Segner Chamber of Commerce award, named after the first president of the Scottsdale Chamber. Deb’s other activities include Scottsdale Leadership, the YMCA, Phoenix Women’s Commission, Arizona Small Business Association, and the American Cancer Society.

Most of Deb’s working career has been in the banking industry. It was through Arizona Bank that she completed her degree in psychology. Deb persuaded that establishment that psychology was important to the banking world, since they deal with many different types of people with varying communication styles. She completed her degree while working full-time and raising her son and daughter. Although it took her 13 years, she tenaciously accomplished her goal.

Deb says she initially started volunteering with nonprofits because the banking community encourages their employees to participate with charitable organizations, to give of their time, energy and finances. In addition, Deb says volunteering is “a great way to get to know people, I love being involved!”

This busy Vice President of Bank USA has been named by Volunteer Center of Maricopa County for the 100 VoluntHero's Recognition. It’s clear to the nonprofit community why Deb Eldridge has earned this distinction!
